1. How Does the Employer Program Work?
It’s simple to get started! Contact us by email or at 503-665-3827 for more information or to get started!
- A GRCTMA staffperson comes to your site to talk about our programs and your needs.
- All employees take a 5-minute transportation survey
- GRCTMA staff provides you with recommendations for your business and information about available opportunities (tax breaks, fun events, etc.).
- You can stay in the loop to find out about news, events, and trainings in the GRC.
2. Why Should We Participate in the Employer Program?
It’s good for your business.
- Helping your employees get to work without a car frees up more parking spaces for your customers.
- Employees who walk or bike to work are healthier. Studies show that they take fewer sick days and are more productive. Even using carpool or transit is less stressful for employees than driving alone.
- You can use your promotion of alternatives to recruit employees and improve employee morale.
- Providing better transportation options for employees gets you recognition as a good neighbor.
- There are tax incentives and other programs available for businesses that help their employees drive less. Contact GRCTMA to find out more.
It’s good for your community.
- Getting more people out walking and biking means more eyes on the street, which means safer streets.
- Money spent on auto transportation mostly goes out of the region, because we don’t build cars or process fuel in Oregon. A recent study found that every $1 not spent on transportation means $.72 added to the local economy.
- Reducing the miles driven alone means reducing the amount of pollution generated in your community. “Air toxics” such as benzene build up near roads and make people living and working nearby more likely to develop illnesses like heart disease, birth defects, and asthma.
3. What is the Customer First Program?
The Customer First Program is designed to help Historic Downtown Gresham thrive by improving access to and expanding transportation choices in downtown for all employees and customers. We encourage everyone to use transit, bicycling, carpooling, or walking to get into downtown when possible. Long-term parking is available in selected lots, leaving shorter-term parking spaces available in the primary lots and on-street spaces.
Customer First businesses commit to helping employees get to work in ways that are convenient, easy, and reduce traffic and parking congestion, making downtown a better place for everyone!
4. Resources for Employers
